Day 224 - double triangles

Another birthday pair, these. I did warn you I got a fair few for my birthday. And I do still have quite a few older and non-present pairs to wear before I run out but I get so excited by new earrings that I have to wear them ASAP. Which is a problem in this challenge a bit because I now can't wear these again until I'm done. But I still wanna. Meh.

Day 223 - purple? hoops

I'd completely forgotten about this pair. They're quite interesting: whenever I see them hanging on the rack I think they're black and then when I look closer I realise they're actually purple.

Day 222 - pink rattles

Another birthday present, this time from my sister. They're a little pinker than I would have chosen for myself, but that's what presents are about aren't they? The things you wouldn't buy for yourself. Like another present (from the other sister, actually) I got recently: it was something I have always wanted but could never justify buying for myself because it's really just a novelty and the only ones I've ever seen have been too expensive for that:

I have a quill. Life is awesome.

Day 221 - birdcages

These were a birthday present. And totally different from anything else I own (this week's theme, obviously) because they're BIRDCAGES! Which gives me the perfect opportunity to remember one of the greatest films ever:

Oh Nathan Lane, you wonderful man. And Robin Williams, how we do miss you.

Day 220 - green and gold

I'm pretty sure I got these from Clicks. I know I bought them because they're totally different from anything else I have (a bit of a theme this week it appears). I like that they kind of look like curtain ties or bell pulls that have been turned into earrings. Something I would totally do. I wore them on Saturday because I needed something green and gold to wear to watch the Boks win the quarter final. Don't know what I'll do this coming Saturday though. I may have to get creative.

Day 219 - red black and white beads

This is an odd pair. Don't get me wrong, I like them a lot. They're interesting in that they're unlike any others I own, which is an achievement in itself really. And of course I've not a clue where I got them.

Day 218 - blue and silver thread

No idea where I got these but they're very much my colours. I like the shape too: longer and slimmer than some of the other drops I own. Hmm, does that make a sizeist?

Day 217 - Spongebob

Having just said that I had no Spongebob earrings ...

My colleagues bought me these for my birthday! These are certainly unique in my collection as earrings, for they are, in fact, flash drives:

But they have little loops at the top (for attaching a lanyard I presume) so they bought me two, expecting that I would be tempted to earringify them. I'm not predictable!

I had thought it would be unusual to have flash drives as earrings. Turns out you can find anything on the Internet though. Some people are as odd as I am and have done just that: bit.ly/usb-earrings. Well, OK, so mine are secretly flash drives. So maybe I can claim uniqueness (boring word; why can't it be uniquicity or something more fun?) in that regard.

Day 216 - Roman helmets

My sister made these. They're lighter than they look but are still on the heavy side, especially when you're bouncing up and down doing changement embôité (or at least a very clumsy and hilarious approximation of same) to the Dance of the Cygnets from Swan Lake. Don't ask. No, in fact, do! It's the latest theatrical endeavour of mine: The Actor's Nightmare, which will be on at the Masque in November. Directed by the same nutter who directed Midsummer Night's Dream earlier this year, and starring a number of actors from that same show (Lysander, Egea, Titania, Thisbe, Puck and Wall), it is going to be hands down hilarious!

Day 215 - green-blue chandeliers

Birthday earrings! In two ways actually. I wore them on my birthday and I got them for my birthday. From my sister. Fair warning: I received a LOT of pairs of earrings for my birthday, perhaps unsurprisingly (and as I predicted way back on Day 60!).

I've seen quite a few of this style of earring recently - the somewhat Oriental, ornate filigree with beads. Seen in shops, I mean, although there are a fair few on my own earring holders too!

Day 214 - pineapples

A key ring to earring (a bit like zero to hero, if you think about it!) pair, this. And probably the closest I have to Spongebob earrings. That is set to change though because my sister bought me Spongebob badges as part of my birthday present and I am confident I can assemble a serviceable pair from them. Stay tuned!

Day 213 - zebras

I think I got these from Spier or Vredenheim or some other touristy place. Nothing wrong with the occasional touristy pair of earrings I reckon. Nor a pair of earrings to remind me of the bush. And I like zebs. Especially when they're little and are all fluffy:

Day 212 - tinkly gold spears

A simple, somewhat nondescript pair except for their pleasing chime. I wore these to the New Space Theatre in Long Street on Friday to watch a James Bond revue, which I thoroughly enjoyed. They covered all the best bits: All Time High, Diamonds Are Forever, You Know My Name, Goldfinger ... the list goes on. They ended with what I thought was a fantastic version of Skyfall too.

But by far the best song was Goldeneye. Tina's a tough act to live up to but Ivanna Mannouw did a superb job.

Day 211 - blue flowery chains

This substantial pair is really quite heavy, but they look nice and always get a lot of comments so I put up with them. They are certainly by no means my heaviest earrings. I wonder which are...

Day 210 - Ginger Mary squares

These have a distinct Ginger Mary feel to them with the three shades of bronze. The mix of shapes is interesting too: the top teardrop is reminiscent of a head so if you take the two squares as the abdomen and legs, these could be berobed women with hands clasped and doing pliés. Or something.

Day 209 - pink stegosauruses

I found a set of three key rings with a pink stegosaurus, a blue triceratops and a green tyrannosaurus. So naturally I bought two sets and decided to turn them into earrings! I think they're very cute.

Day 208 - clasp shields

Like my 200th pair, these were originally necklace clasps but I think they're rather pretty as earrings. The designs put me in mind of African masks or shields of some description.

Day 207 - greeny blue drops

These were given to me by a friend who claims she never wears them. They're a bit smaller than my usual fare but paired with an ear cuff with similar colouring, they worked very well I thought.

Day 206 - black lacy leaves

I got these as part of a set with my smaller black butterflies. They accompanied me to GrandWest on Saturday to watch Russell Brand who, I was relieved to find, has retained his amusement value despite going a bit potty recently with his revolution talk. I was rather disappointed in his latest book, Revolution, because I'd so enjoyed his previous two and wasn't very impressed by his pseudo-political ranting.

Day 205 - whale tails

A slightly larger pair than my other whale tails, these started life as key rings from the Two Oceans aquarium. Speaking of my other whale tails, I found the one I'd thought I'd lost in my handbag over the weekend. I wonder if that means I can wear the mismatched one again as part of a pair and claim that as an entirely new set.

Day 204 - silver ellies

Another craft shop pair, this one. I think they're rather cute. And they remind me a bit of the elephants from Disney's The Jungle Book. Well, the little one at any rate.

And, of course, their trunks are up!

Day 203 - silver birds

Had to get a bit creative with this one as I managed to lose one of the original earrings (on the left). I think my sister found me the replacement decoration. Heaven alone knows what it originally was, but as a replacement earring I think it works rather well.
